Word is a Weapon

January 23, 2020
Russia makes a misinformation as one of the most important strategies

Aggressor country tries to manipulate public opinion of the Ukrainian and world publics more and more.

This was discussed during a meeting of the DIU workforce with a coordinator of a team of the military experts “Information Resistance” Kostiantyn Mashovets. He is one of the heroes of the Ukrainian resistance of 2014–2015, who entered with a small group of Ukrainian servicemen in the war against Russia long before the beginning of invasion of the Crimea and Donbas by occupation troops. Participants of the information resistance understand perfectly that a modern war is a complex of information-and-combat operations, as well as information mobilizes society, motivates servicemen, gathers resources, determines a level of foreign-policy support. Therefore discussion between intelligence officers and the military expert became professional and interesting.

During the meeting, attendees came to a conclusion that the Russian misinformation became a weapon, an instrument of stirring up hatred and polarization, breeding uncertainty and distrust towards state institutions.

The intelligence officers also communicated with the expert on methods of disclosure of fake news and came to an agreement about joint counteraction to misinformation aimed at destruction of the Ukrainian society.
