Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, the Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, stated This in an exclusive interview with the South Korean media The Chosun.
According to him, the North Korean grouping in the war against Ukraine lost about 4,000 military killed and seriously wounded. But despite the significant losses, North Korean forces continue to actively participate in joint operations with russian troops. Also, the number of North Korean artillery is increasing at the front.
“This war has mobilized all the military capabilities of the countries involved. Only three states - Ukraine, russia, and North Korea - are gaining direct experience conducting a full-scale war in the 21st century. The future North Korean army will radically differ from the past,” Kyrylo Budanov emphasized.
The Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine emphasized that the aggressor state of russia and the DPRK are deepening military cooperation in technology, science, and industry.
“This cooperation reaches the highest level and seriously threatens the international community. [...] North Korea uses this war to gain combat experience and modernize its military technology. This will have long-term consequences for the security system in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Kyrylo Budanov.
For example, he described the changes the North Korean KN-23 missile has undergone.
“Initially, its accuracy was very low, with an error of 500 to 1,500 meters, but russian experts made technical modifications. Now the missile has become much more accurate and is a much more serious threat,” said the head of the Ukrainian intelligence service, adding that this missile weapon threatens the security of South Korea and Japan.
Kyrylo Budanov expressed hope that cooperation between Kyiv and Seoul will deepen.
“Ukraine and South Korea are facing the same enemy - North Korea. The future North Korean army will radically differ from the past,” Kyrylo Budanov emphasized.
Ukraine is now gaining combat experience on its own battlefield. The exchange of this experience and intelligence would be mutually beneficial,” the Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine emphasized.
