Awards were presented to warriors both on frontlines in the area of combat actions as well as in the capital of Ukraine.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko bestowed the “Golden Star” Order of Hero of Ukraine to 23-year old leader of reconnaissance detachment of the 15th separate mountain-infantry battalion of the 128th separate mountain-infantry brigade Senior Soldier Oleksandr Kapush who perished in battle against the Russian aggressor while protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. The Head of State presented this award to the defender’s parents Liudmila Kniazivna and Vasyl Ivanovych.

In February of 2015, in the course of performing of a combat task a group of reconnaissance men, headed by Oleksandr, courageously defended their positions from superior forces of Russian mercenaries. In the most arduous moments of battle, a battle grenade was thrown at the group from the side of the enemy. Without hesitation Oleksandr shielded his comrade but he himself was killed. The positions were held.

“The feat of Oleksandr will remain forever in the memory of people, it will become a symbol of the invincible combat spirit pertinent to the defenders of the Ukrainian land”, - the Head of State stressed.

The Head of State greeted everyone on the occasion of the holiday and wished to carry on the glorious combat traditions of our ancestors. “They bequeathed us the best country in the world. In turn, we will make it even better prior to passing it on to our children and grandchildren”, - the President of Ukraine added.
