The entire Ukraine is proud of you. Next generation of Ukrainian warriors will be raised at your example”, the President said, addressing to the Hero.

Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Hero of Ukraine Ihor Hordiichuk headed the detachment of Special Forces during the performing of tasks in the enemy’s rear, he was one the first who take the height of Savur-Mohyla. For 12 days in August, the scouts of Hordiichuk controlled Savur-Mohyla, repelling the night attacks of militants. He was contused several times but he didn’t leave his positions. Ihor Hordiichuk was the last who leave the height and he withdrawed the personnel through the enemy rear by raid actions. During deterring the attacks of terrorists, he received a severe wound of the head and on August 30, he was delivered to the hospital of Dniepropetrovsk. He underwent several operations.

On October 21, 2014, according to the Presidential Decree, Colonel Hordiichuk was bestowed a title of Hero of Ukraine and was awarded with Order “Golden Star” – for exceptional courage and heroism displayed in protecting of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, loyalty to oath of allegiance. In September Ihor Hordiichuk was also awarded with the Orders of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi (2nd and 3rd Classes).

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko instructed to inform him personally on the health condition of Ihor Hordiichuk.

Defence Minister Colonel-General Stepan Poltorak and the Chief of General Staff Colonel-General Viktor Muzhenko visited Colonel Ihor Hordiichuk together with the President.
