President Petro Poroshenko has visited wounded officer of reconnaissance company of the 24th separate mechanized brigade Volodymyr Hera who is undergoing treatment in Dresden

The Head of State has awarded the order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi of 3rd Class to the reconnaissance man. “The entire country is proud of you. Ukrainian heroes are born this way. Ukraine is going through enormous trials right now. The whole Ukraine must follow your example”, – Petro Poroshenko said.

President of Ukraine expressed gratitude to the mother of officer for good bringing up of her son who saved 400 Ukrainian servicemen at the cost of his own health. The Head of State has discussed health conditions of patient with the doctors and necessary steps for his recovery. Petro Poroshenko has instructed the Minister of Health of Ukraine to take the rehabilitation of the hero under his personal control.

24-year-old First Lieutenant Volodymyr Hera was adjusting the fire of Ukrainian artillery that was covering the retreat of 400 warriors who were taking part in the defence of Luhansk airport on August 31, 2014. During the battle, he received serious wounds. Under the auspices of Ukrainian diplomats and volunteers, Volodymyr Hera was sent to Dresden on February, where German doctors have conducted him a number of complicated operations.
