“In 2023, when Ukraine will meet the relevant criteria, we are planning to apply for membership in the European Union and obtain the NATO Membership Action Plan,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.

The President recalled the event that took place this week: “This event clearly outlined our strategic perspective for decades to come. From now on, the course of Ukraine for the full-scale membership in the European Union and NATO is enshrined in the Constitution and has the force not just of the law, but of the Basic Law”.

“The idea to consolidate the strategic course for gaining full-fledged membership of Ukraine in the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in the Constitution arose not by chance. It is a logical interim summary of our state strategy for strengthening our state independence and reunification, return of Ukraine to the family of European nations,” he said.

The President stressed: “Ukraine and the European Union are now closer to each other than ever before. As for NATO, I stress that no state that isn’t a member of this organization has such close relations with the Alliance as Ukraine today”.

At the same time, Petro Poroshenko noted that this is not enough. “Only full membership in the European Union and NATO ultimately and irrevocably guarantees our state independence, our national security. And not only independence and security, but also freedom and welfare,” he said.
