Within the framework of a number of events on decommunization, it is planned to rename 45 streets and alleys in the town of Bershad, Vinnytsia region. After the public debates, the streets which are named after Voroshylov, Enhels, Marks, Kalinin, Kirov, Krupska and other doubtful heroes, are planned to rename in honour of the outstanding Ukrainians, such as: Hryhorii Skovoroda, Vasyl Stus, Yaroslav Mudryi and Ostap Vyshnia.
On the request of the public, one of the streets is planned to rename in the honor of Hero of Ukraine Yurii Kovalenko.
Yurii Kovalenko was born in the town of Bershad in the family of serviceman. He served in the 3rd separate Special Forces regiment. On July, 2014, courageous intelligence officer was killed during performing the combat task in the area of holding of anti-terrorist operation.
On March 31, 2015, according to the Decree of the President of Ukraine, Lieutenant Colonel Kovalenko Yurii Viktorovych was bestowed a title of Hero of Ukraine for exceptional courage, heroism and self-sacrifice displayed in defence of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukrainian state, loyalty to the oath of allegiance.
