With the development of Russian armed aggression in Ukraine a new image of our warrior-defender manifested himself. His roots lie in self-identification, which is based on the true history of the Ukrainian troops, not the one which was dictated by Soviet propaganda for decades. A coordinator of the volunteer group called “New Troop” and journalist Vitalii Haidukevych underscored that the modern Ukrainian army is not the successor of the USSR Army, but rather the ascendant of those armed formations which defended the Ukrainian state at different periods of our difficult but heroic history.

For the sole purpose of giving the servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine a chance to identify themselves with descendant of the glorious Ukrainian army, members of a volunteer group called “New Troop” developed a military uniform, which completely corresponds to Ukrainian military tradition. We could see it during the military parade dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Independence of Ukraine.

The art director of the “New Troop” working group Olerksii Rudenko presented a model of the new uniform and insignia of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in detail. At the same time, historian and participant of the project “Literacy campaign. Historical front” Vasyl Pavlov told DIU officers about the historical continuity of the army of Ukraine and presented a book “History of Ukrainian troops”.

It is the first illustrated edition in the last 80 years which includes systematic educational depiction of the history of military arts. Twelve historians-scientists, teachers of leading universities of Ukraine and Great Britain, became the authors of historical essays about the establishment of Ukrainian troops. The edition includes information about defenders of the Ukrainian land from the first professional military community in the territory of Ukraine during Ancient times up to the participation of Ukrainian armed formations in anti-terrorist operation in the East of Ukraine, where the modern Ukrainian army was born. The book includes stories of ordinary Ukrainian warriors, who always acted as shields for their Homeland, defending native land from invaders.

Intelligence officers sincerely thanked the guests for the extremely interesting and comprehensive narratives and expressed hope for further meetings.
