The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU), through its War & Sanctions portal under the "Weapon Components" section, has published the electronic component base and a 3D schematic of the upgraded Iranian-made Shahed-136 (Geran-2) MS-series loitering munition.
The drone was shot down by Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Sumy region in June 2025.
Analysis of the fuselage materials and internal architecture confirms that the drone was manufactured in Iran. However, specific design changes and enhancements suggest joint engineering efforts between Iran and russia in upgrading the Shahed platform.
Key findings include:
Iran and russia are not merely transferring technology but co-developing and upgrading systems together. The implications go beyond the war in Ukraine — these technologies could fuel Iran's destabilizing actions across the Middle East, now enhanced with battlefield-tested russian innovations.
DIU's analysis of this drone is ongoing. As new findings become available, they will be published on the War&Sanctions portal.
This case reinforces the urgent need for unified global action to counter the collaboration between authoritarian regimes developing military-grade technologies for aggression.a
