War&Sanctions: Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Publishes Data on 68 Foreign Components Used in Missiles and Drones Attacking Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure
October 27, 2025

The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, in the “Components in Weapons” section of the War&Sanctions portal, has released information on 68 new components identified in missiles and UAVs used by russia to strike Ukraine.

The latest update includes parts from the 9M727 “Iskander-K” cruise missile, the Kh-47M2 “Kinzhal” aero-ballistic missile, North Korean KN-23/KN-24 ballistic missiles, and the Shahed-136 (Geran-2) attack drone.

These same weapons were used by russian forces during the massive combined air assault on the night of October 22, targeting Ukraine’s energy sector and peaceful cities.

Despite russian claims about the “success of import substitution,” its missiles and drones still rely heavily on microchips and electronics produced by manufacturers from the United States, China, Switzerland, Japan, Taiwan, and other countries.

Meanwhile, two of the six weapon types used in the latest attack reached russia with the direct support of its so-called strategic partners — Iran and North Korea.

This highlights the growing risks for regions far beyond Europe, including the Indo-Pacific and the Middle East.

Today’s update underscores the urgent need to review and strengthen global export control mechanisms and improve international cooperation to respond effectively to the challenges of wartime proliferation.

The “Components in Weapons” section of the War&Sanctions portal now contains data on nearly 5,200 components used in 179 weapon systems, helping the global community technologically disarm aggressor states.
