On January 28, 2025, the Museum of War in Kyiv hosted an event dedicated to strategic communications in the context of the russian-Ukrainian war.
The DIU Strategic Communications Department team presented its experience to participants and guests — representatives of the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine, state bodies, military experts, media, and volunteers — on the occasion of the second anniversary of the unit's foundation.
The Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, defines Strategic communications as "the ability to manage information to correctly interpret the past, shape reality, and influence the future. "
These words of the head of the Ukrainian intelligence service begin the thematic film "War for the Mind," which was presented at the event and describes the activities of the DIU's StratCom.
The film's speakers - the DIU Chief Kyrylo Budanov, representatives of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Vadym Skibitskyi, Andrii Yusov, Andrii Cherniak, and Head of the Secretariat of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War Bohdan Ohrimenko - described the key challenges and threats to the state's information security that they had to face during the war and gave examples of successful actions to proactively counter the russian aggressor.
"Strategic communications are not additional actions, but a mandatory part of planning and conducting military operations and other activities. It is also a process at the heart of ensuring Ukraine's national security. [...] Ukrainians are paying a terrible price for their freedom. And everything we can do to ease this price, to make the world aware of this price, we can and must do," said Andrii Yusov, representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, in his welcoming speech.
"We are working with everyone who works for victory - these are our mass media of all kinds, from the Internet to print media; it is the involvement of leading experts, so-called think tanks, public, and other organizations that really have the experience and capabilities to produce a product aimed at victory," said Vadym Skibitskyi, representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.
The participants and guests of the meeting congratulated the DIU's Strategic Communications team.
"I appreciate the adult approach in the communications of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine. Adult means honest, balanced, calm, and responsible. Thank you for this, colleagues," said Sonya Koshkina, editor-in-chief of Lb.ua.
Friends from abroad also recorded the video greetings for the DIU communicators: members of the European Parliament from the Czech Republic and Lithuania Tomas Zdehovski and Petras Austrevicius, former Director of Intelligence of Estonia Eerik-Niiles Kross, Member of the Ukrainian Parliament and Chairman of the PACE Committee on Culture, Science, Education and Media Yevheniia Kravchuk.
