Half-Million-Dollar Deception: DIU Saved the Life of RDK Commander Denis Kapustin
January 2, 2026

The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine carried out a complex, multi-stage special operation to save the life of Denis Kapustin, commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK), while simultaneously exposing an enemy intelligence network.

To mislead russian operatives and ensure the safety of the target, Ukrainian intelligence officers staged an elaborate operation simulating Kapustin’s “elimination.”

As part of the ruse, two strike drones were used: one appeared to hit a vehicle carrying the commander, while the second filmed the aftermath — a burning car meant to serve as “proof” of the attack.

The fabricated footage successfully convinced russian intelligence handlers, who subsequently paid a reward of $500,000 for what they believed was the completed assassination. The funds were transferred to Ukrainian operatives and are now being used to strengthen the combat capabilities of DIU’s special forces.

The operation not only preserved the life of a key figure in the resistance but also dealt a significant blow to the enemy’s intelligence apparatus.

The fight continues.
