Work is underway to ensure that the documentary "One Summer in Ukraine," currently being shown in Ukrainian cinemas, is presented to English-speaking audiences at international festivals.
Volodymyr, a representative of the International Legion of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, reported this in a conversation with Jenny Klochko for the podcast "Ukrainian Jenny meets..."
Volodymyr spoke about how the documentary about foreign volunteers was received in Ukraine.
"I watched this movie in every new city. Every time I watched it, I saw specific micro details I hadn't noticed before. And somehow I caught myself feeling that this movie does not bore me. [...] And one lady wrote in an Instagram story: "Why do I want to watch the movie again? First, because all the profits from the movie will go to support the unit. Second because this movie is sexy. Third - because this movie is very sexy," he described.
According to Volodymyr, viewers' expectations do not match what they see on the screen.
"Perhaps some viewers expect more action scenes, you know, in the style of John Wick or Black Hawk Down - shooting, explosions. But we filmed the usual routine of Ukrainian soldiers. This is work. [...] Most of this film was shot in a fairly safe place, when the guys are training, eating, arguing, joking, swearing in Ukrainian - as we now see, this is one of the funniest parts of the movie," said the Legion representative.
