DIU representatives congratulated former UPA liaison officer Angelina Palamar on her 100th birthday. In the last century, she fought for Ukraine against the russian "empire."
On behalf of the Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov, the Aratta special forces, and DIU spokesman Andriy Yusov honored Ms. Palamar with a special DIU “Ukraine Above All” award.
At the age of 15, Angelina Palamar witnessed the crimes of the russian occupiers: the NKVD servicemen shot her father and brother right in the family yard. So young Angelina decided to join the ranks of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) and became a liaison with the pseudonym “Orysia.”
Soon after, the Soviet secret services captured Angelina Palamar and, after prolonged interrogation and torture, sentenced her to 10 years in camps and five years in exile. But despite these trials, Orysia did not break down, did not betray her comrades and sisters, and remained faithful to the cause of fighting for Ukrainian independence.
“Ukraine was not born out of nothing in 1991. We continue the longstanding, multi-generational struggle of our people for independence.
And today, on the one hand, Ms. Angelina sees a new drama, a new great war from the old invader, the russian empire. On the other hand, she sees that our fight is no longer underground. Today, the Ukrainian army, the entire Ukrainian people, and the whole free world are standing together with Ukraine against the russian invasion,” said Andriy Yusov, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine spokesman, in his greetings.
The Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov also sent a personal greeting to Ms. Palamar.
The DIU Chief noted that the heroic efforts of “Orysia” and her comrades-in-arms inspired a new generation of Ukrainian soldiers to resist the russian horde and defend Ukrainian independence.
The message from Kyrylo Budanov was shown to Anhelina Palamar and her family on a new TV set presented by the DIU representatives.
We thank Ms. Palamar for her lifelong deed and wish her to see another Ukrainian victory over the eternal enemy!
