National Police of Ukraine and DIU Identify 22 War Criminals Responsible for Torture in Donetsk Colony
October 10, 2025

Investigators from the National Police of Ukraine, working jointly with specialists from the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, have documented war crimes committed by russian occupiers and their collaborators at the Kalinin Correctional Colony located in the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region.

The occupiers turned the facility into a brutal torture center for Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilian hostages. Employees of the penitentiary — traitors who sided with moscow as early as 2014 — actively participated in the crimes.

Victims held in the so-called "Kalinin Torture Prison" were subjected to inhumane and prolonged beatings, psychological abuse, and humiliation, all aimed at breaking their spirit and dignity.

With the assistance of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, investigators from the National Police have formally charged 22 individuals under Part 1, Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (War Crimes).

Among the identified perpetrators are so-called "heads of operational units," "duty assistants to the prison warden," "commanders of military guards," "junior security inspectors," and other accomplices of the aggressor state, who carried out criminal orders from the occupation authorities, coordinated beatings, and supervised torture.

Experts from the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine continue to identify war criminals. Intelligence data helps investigators establish links between the torturers, their curators in the occupation administration, and russian military units.

The gathered evidence may be transferred to the International Criminal Court to ensure all perpetrators are held accountable.

The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine reaffirms: every war crime committed against the Ukrainian people will be met with just retribution.
