On November 7, 2024, a full-length drama film “Bucha”, created with the assistance of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, will appear in cinemas.
The day before, a pre-premiere show took place in Kyiv. The film is based on the real story of a volunteer, a citizen of Kazakhstan, Kostiantyn Gudauskas.
He took the highest risk and participated in the evacuation operation called Bucha. In the spring of 2022, he helped to evacuate hundreds of people from the occupied city and thus save their lives.
“Kostya is a very brave, deep person. This story proves once again that the desire to help and human values can make wonders. [...] I am grateful for Kyrylo Budanov's trust and support - the operation was implemented with the full assistance of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine,” said Gaide Rizaeva, a representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, during the presentation of the film.
“The DIU representatives helped us a lot: they advised us, provided us with photos and video materials, and familiarized us with the texts of intercepted conversations of the Russian military. We used all this in the movie. Some of the occupiers' dialogues are reproduced verbatim,” said the scriptwriter and producer of the film Oleksandr Shchur.
The authors of the drama “Bucha” have already presented their work abroad. The film won the “Audience Award” at the 40th Warsaw International Film Festival.
This is a film about human courage, unity, and readiness for self-sacrifice in a critical, existential moment.
“The appearance of the Ukrainian film Bucha on wide screens is very important because it is about an act, a choice, and true heroism. The story is based on real events, and it is a good thing to preserve it in cinema, to tell it to the world, and to convey the atmosphere of the beginning of russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The tension and drama of this story will not leave anyone indifferent,” said Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.
The film “Bucha” will be available in Ukrainian cinemas starting from November 7, 2024.
