Servicemen of the “Kraken” special unit of the Active Measurement Department of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine have received their battle flag — a symbol of honor, valor, and continuity of combat traditions.

The fighters accepted the flag on a symbolic date — February 24. It was on this day in 2022 that the full-scale invasion began, and “Kraken” stood up to defend its native city of Kharkiv and its residents.

The battle flag was presented to the unit by the Chief of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Oleh Ivashchenko.

“Kraken warriors have taken part in numerous operations — the liberation of the Kharkiv region, the battles for Bakhmut… Receiving the battle flag is an honor not only for the unit but for the entire military intelligence service. Many of our brothers-in-arms gave their lives defending our land, our cities, and their loved ones for the sake of our shared future,” he said.

The Lieutenant General wished the “Kraken” warriors strength of spirit in their continued struggle for Ukraine’s freedom.

The special operations soldiers were also congratulated by the head of the DIU's Active Measurement Department, known by the call sign “Philosopher.”

“You are worthy of this flag. I am confident that you will carry it with honor. Your work and your sacrifice have been recognized by the state and by all our people,” the Philosopher emphasized.

On the same day, DIU soldiers and officers held a joint flower-laying ceremony in memory of their brothers- and sisters-in-arms who gave their lives in the fight against the occupiers.

The intelligence officers offered a joint prayer for Ukraine, for its freedom, for its people, and for the souls of their fallen comrades.
