Yesterday, St. Nicolas Day was celebrated in Ukraine – one of the most esteemed Saints of the church – Wonderworker, a protector of the poor and children as well as a patron of travelers.

The historical figure, canonized as St. Nicolas, became a symbol of mercy and sacrificial love that is why children, above all, wait for St. Nicolas Day.

In order to provide support to one of the most vulnerable categories of our society – children with special needs – on December 19, 2017, DIU employees paid a visit to special school № 12 of Darnytsia district in Kyiv.

Intelligence officers did not visit children with empty hands. Having undertaken untypical duties, DIU employees “conducted concealed movement to the appointed area in advance, helped St. Nicolas’ sleigh with sweets to overcome snow and blizzards during a march in combined way and ensured the arrival of sweets for children in time at the designated area”. Children gladly welcomed the guests as well as the gifts, and invited intelligence officers to watch a holiday performance they had prepared.

The children’s genuine joy, happy smiles and invitation for new visits was the best form of gratitude for intelligence officers.
