On October 3, 2014, within the framework of working visit to Lviv region, Petro Poroshenko visited the Army Academy named after hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi.
Addressing to Academy’s personnel, the President noted that today Ukraine is experiencing the most difficult stage in life of the state and whole Ukrainian nation protects the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence.
The Head of the state emphasized the special role of servicemen who are taking part in counterterrorist operation and the contribution of the Army Academy named after hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi in fostering of a new generation officer corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During the warfare, 62 officers – the former graduates of the educational institution – were awarded with the state awards, among them – the Hero of Ukraine Yevhen Zelenskyi (awarded posthumously).
Petro Poroshenko expressed confidence that Ukrainian troops will continue to demonstrate their best qualities and the state, in his turn, will increase the support of the defence industry and servicemen.
Also during the visit to the Academy, the Head of the state presented the state awards to servicemen who participated in counterterrorist operation.
With the Order “For Courage” (3rd Class) were awarded Junior Sergeant Vadim Masovets, Senior Soldier Volodymyr Sirkiv and Senior Soldier Andrii Shevchuk. Ex-fighters of the 80th separate airborne brigade were awarded with high state awards for courage and heroism displayed during counterterrorist operation.
In conclusion, the President of Ukraine – Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko visited the museum of the Academy.
