An officer of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine talked about the peculiarities of conducting electronic intelligence in an exclusive interview with RBK-Ukraine.

"Anything that emits a radio signal is already a source. We go through a certain stage of searching for the source of radio emissions - these are radio waves. Then, the analysis of these signals continues, and decoding and demodulation are performed. And from this information, seemingly numbers, noises, we already get semantics - roughly speaking, everyone is already familiar with the sounds we have on our website or the interception of some civilian or military communications," the scout said.

He called physics the unit's main "ally." He emphasized that the REW system is an essential intelligence source for Ukraine's Security and Defense Forces.

"We have operational, technical, and analytical measures that allow us to do the most important thing - to detect the enemy, to determine its number. And the highest skill is when we predict what the enemy will do. [...] Ukraine is unique in that our country has the EW system. Few countries and armed forces can be proud of creating an electronic intelligence system," the intelligence officer noted.

Sometimes, the specialists of the EWR units are assigned specific tasks, such as determining the enemy's moral and psychological state.

"When the Kharkiv offensive was underway, we provided them with information during the movement of our troops - where, who was operating opposite our units, and their condition. I remember an episode like this: the enemy was driven beyond the Oskil River, and they were panicking. They said: "They are waiting for us here," They were waiting for us here." And we just knew where they were going. And the guys were informed that they were there," the DIU representative recalled.
