On November 4, 2021, Oleksii Reznikov was appointed as the Minister of Defence of Ukraine by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Prior to that, he worked at position of Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories. 273 people's deputies voted in favour of the new head of the Defence Ministry, none of them spoke against.
At a briefing for the media on the sidelines of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the newly appointed minister told reporters that he would take a one-month break in dealing with the press regarding the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Oleksii Reznikov then noted that he already has a vision of priority steps and tasks over the medium term, but wants to delve deeply into the issue and test ideas "from inside".
