The surgical and resuscitation teams of Defence Intelligence of Ukraine carry out missions alongside combat units, staying near the battlefield and adapting to the most challenging environments.
Colonel Oleh Shchepinskii, Head of the DIU Medical Department, emphasized this during his address at SOMA 2025, a medical conference held in the United States.
The Special Operations Medical Association (SOMA) is the world's leading international organization bringing together professionals in tactical and extreme medicine.
In his presentation, Colonel Shchepinskii outlined DIU's approach to medical support during special operations, highlighting the use of autonomous surgical and resuscitation teams in combat conditions.
"These teams are deployed on any mobile platform, even in unsuitable terrain, and operate regardless of weather or lighting conditions. Their key strengths are coordination, teamwork, and professional and military expertise," said Shchepinskii.
Since the beginning of russia's full-scale invasion, DIU's medical teams have provided frontline support for ground, naval, and airborne operations.
"Every member of our surgical and resuscitation teams is trained to plan and execute tasks assigned by the head of Defence Intelligence," he added.
Colonel Shchepinskii shared DIU's experience with aeromedical evacuation, noting that Defence Intelligence of Ukraine remains the only national special service conducting tactical air evacuations.
