The commander of the DIU special unit with alias Tymur, who was taking part in liberation of Zmiinyi Island, told about unknown episodes of the de-occupying of Island in an interview on YouTube channel “Ramina”.
According to Timur, the day of a decisive operation on Zmiinyi Island was divided into several stages.
“At the first stage, there was artillery preparation, at the second, aviation was involved. The task was to install the national flag of Ukraine on a helipad. We installed it. Then there was the third stage – preliminary reconnaissance of the coastal zone and mine clearance,” the DIU Special Forces officer said, adding that the russians had raised the combat aviation and struck Zmiinyi Island.
Also, Tymur told about a special instruction from the chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov.
“We asked for one of the flags [for Zmiinyi Island] in Odesa, it was very large. And so the commander told us to place the largest on the edge of the island that faces Crimea," intelligence officer told.
After that, a group of Ukrainian special forces moved to the final stage of the special operation.
“On the forth stage, we took the Island under full control. The enemy tricolour was lowered, and the Ukrainian flag was raised on the official flagpole," Tymur said.
The DIU warrior also described the feeling of reconnaissance personnel who perform tasks with increased risk.
“The DIU employees can overcome their fears. We have caution. We have the planning. Therefore, there is no feeling of fear either in the team or in my brothers who serve with me,” Tymur noted.
During the conversation, he recalled the story of a special resident of Zmiinyi Island, who was saved during the liberation of the Island.
“We saw a cat. We were tasked by our commander to take him away. Now, he is in safe hands,” a commander of the DIU special unit told.
