Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine: Ukraine’s Integration with NATO Is Irreversible and Can Be Realized Very Quickly

November 8, 2021
"Under the influence of Russia’s permanent aggression against the whole Eastern Europe, NATO realistically assesses important significance of our state for continental European system of collective security," Brigadier General Kyrylo Budanov, Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, stated this in comments to Serhii Kuzan, head of the Ukrainian Security and Cooperation Center.

The head of military intelligence of Ukraine also noted that events within the context of Euro Atlantic aspirations of the Ukrainian state and society can develop very rapidly and in unexpected ways. Tense situation in relationships between Russia with European Union countries and the USA, as well as energy crisis at European continent, provoked by ‘gas’ blackmailing of Putin’s regime, are promoted this.

“Over a long time, the main arguments of prevarication or refusing Ukraine’s integration into NATO were the lack of modernization of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, almost imperceptible structural reforms and the changing political situation in our country. But now everything has changed a lot. Our Army holds high positions in international rankings. And the geopolitical agenda is such that Ukraine can be a welcome guest even with a number of its unresolved issues, especially of a territorial nature,” the Head of Ukraine's military intelligence underscored.

Kyrylo Budanov is convinced that today timely and consolidated responses of countries of democracy to complex challenges are more important than to observe to statutory provisions, formulated yet in the last century. “Such a consolidated response to the ongoing ‘Russian problem’ is currently unlikely being imagined by many Alliance’s top officials without Ukraine. We have to be consistent and persistent in our intentions. The political decision is up to the Alliance,” the Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine added.
