Threat of invasion of Ukraine by belarusian army, from a military perspective, remains. However, a direct military offensive from belarus is unlikely at the moment.
This was stated by Vadym Skibitskyi, a representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, in an interview with the military television of Ukraine.
“Today, there is no a direct threat from belarus, because grouping of troops has not been created, as well as command and control system has not been deployed. This is the main element of those fact that immediate preparation for hostilities is being done,” Vadym Skibitskyi explained.
But the presence of seven battalions of the belarusian armed forces near the border induces the Ukrainian command to involve additional deterrent forces and strengthen intelligence.
“It diverts resources and means from our eastern front. In addition, the constant movement of troops is aimed at keeping us under tension. Separate elements, tactical episodes of possible offensive actions from the territory of belarus are being worked out,” the representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine said.
