Former British Soldier Died Covering Retreat of His Ukrainian Comrades-in-Arms

Jordan Gatley, a former British soldier who has been dubbed "a true hero" by friends and family died saving his squad from russian occupiers.

Anton, Jordan’s friend, a veteran of the Canadian Army, told on the air of ‘ITV News’ TV channel.

Anton, a combat engineer, was defending Ukraine with Jordan in a special unit of the International Legion run by the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

In a battle for the town of Sievierodonetsk, Gatley’s squad engaged in the battle with russian special forces that attacked, being covered by tanks.

“There was a lot of artillery, a lot of armoured units, we became engaged with russian special forces units. Jordan remained in the dangerous building to provide us with covering fire. We had a T-72 tank approaching us and our chances of survival would have been minimal,” Anton said.

The defender of Ukraine also said that Jordan's covering fire had allowed the group to retreat to a safe place and continue to perform a combat mission.

Being under intense fire from russian troops, special forces team carried the Jordan’s body away from the encroaching russian forces. Intelligence men knew that he'd have never left any of them behind.
