The data of another 57 captains and 45 vessels of the russian shadow tanker fleet has published on War & Sanctions portal of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.
The list includes, among other things, vessels that have transported sanctioned russian oil from the Arctic and served the Sakhalin-1, Sakhalin-2, Sakhalin-3, Prirazlomne, and Novyi Port projects.
In total, the portal has published data on 89 captains, some of whom are under sanctions.
Captains are in charge of a ship and have full authority on board. They have information about the owners of the shadow tankers and their technical condition, as well as the vessel’s cargo and its value.
Contrary to international rules, industry standards, and sanctions restrictions, these captains engage in deceptive and high-risk practices.
They disable and manipulate the AIS or LRIT system, use spoofing, enter false information into route logs, and make STS transmissions.
Such actions of the captains help the aggressor to circumvent the restrictions imposed by more than 30 countries on russian energy resources and pose a threat of environmental disaster for almost every country in the world, including those that still consider russia to be their trading partner.
The list of incidents involving the shadow tanker fleet operated by russian captains is in the dozens. Every key maritime logistical artery in the world is at risk of being blocked for a long time due to deliberate violations committed by the captains of the shadow tanker fleet of the russian federation.
They can refuse to commit illegal actions, but choose to be complicit.
The maritime industry in general and crewing companies in particular can stop this. Captains who have agreed to command the shadow fleet of the russian federation should lose the opportunity to work on ships in the future, and crewing companies that facilitate their employment should be sanctioned.
By disclosing the vessels and the names of their captains, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine reminds that responsibility and punishment will catch up with everyone.
