Hurivske - a settlement in the Odesa region is named in honor of the DIUThe village of Pershotravneve in the Rozdilnyanskyi district of the Odesa region was renamed Hurivske in honor of the DIU service. In Ukrainian, the DIU is spelled as HUR ("ГУР"), so the new name of the village sounds similar.

This decision was made to recognize the important contribution of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine to national interest protection, strengthening the defense capabilities of our state and honoring the achievements of defense intelligence officers.

The Ukrainian Institute of National Memory explains that during the full-scale war with Russia, the DIU servicemen performed a set of complex tasks: from strategic intelligence to combat operations to liberate Ukrainian lands, as well as special missions in the occupied territories and behind enemy lines, which undermined the military potential of the aggressor state.

We express our gratitude to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the team of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, and the local community of Hurivske for the important decision and the honoring of the DIU servicepeople's feat in the toponymy.

The name Hurivske, which honors the state courtesy of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, is not accidental for the Odesa region: it symbolizes the continuity of historical traditions in the creation of national intelligence services.

For example, Vsevolod Zmiienko, a prominent military figure during the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917-1921, General-Corporal of the Army of the Ukrainian People's Republic, one of the organizers of the military intelligence service of the State Center of the UPR in exile, was born in Odesa in 1886.

This summer a street in the center of Odesa was named in honor of him.

Glory to Ukraine!
