The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine has released information on 11 russian ship captains and 31 vessels involved in schemes to circumvent sanctions on the trade of russian oil.
Among the individuals disclosed are the captains of tankers affiliated with the sanctioned russian company sovcomflot, which violates the price cap policy imposed on russian oil exports. Notably, the list includes ivan nikiforov, captain of the tanker KOTLAS, and konstantin kovalenko, captain of the tanker CORUS.
These captains possess detailed knowledge about the ownership of shadow tankers, the technical condition of the ships, cargo specifics and their value, and the entire route of each voyage.
They are directly responsible for decisions such as disabling or tampering with vessel navigation systems, falsifying location data, entering misleading information into ship logs, conducting unsafe ship-to-ship oil transfers at sea, and employing other tactics to bypass sanctions.
Such actions not only help finance russia's aggressive war against Ukraine but also pose a serious threat of global environmental disaster.
The "Maritime Vessels" section of the War&Sanctions portal currently provides data on 782 ships and 100 captains.
