A Filipino in Donbas — DIU identifies russian mercenary killed in the war

Ukraine’s military intelligence has identified a russian mercenary from the Philippines who was killed in the war — Jeric Jumadil Undol, born on 5 March 1989, a native of the Manila metropolitan area.

Undol obtained a russian visa on 22 January 2026 and arrived in russia on 18 April, where he immediately began the process of signing a military contract.

The mercenary was housed at the Avangard centre, an institution for military-patriotic education of young people.

On 3 May, the Filipino signed a one-year contract with the russian occupation army and was sent for training. Like other foreign mercenaries, he did not stay there for long — his training lasted about a week.

By approximately mid-May, Undol was already at the line of contact. At the end of the month, he was killed during a senseless assault near the settlement of Katerynivka in Donetsk Oblast, located near the junction of Donetsk, Kharkiv and Luhansk oblasts.

The mercenary deliberately ignored warnings from the Philippine government and local legislation, tempted by the prospect of “easy” money. Ultimately, he paid with his life for that decision.

According to the I Want to Live project, around 14 Filipino citizens have signed contracts with the russian occupation army. At least two of them have been killed, while another is in captivity.
