According to the President’s Decree No. 419/2021, an honorary title has been bestowed to the 54th separate reconnaissance battalion of the Army of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the aim of perpetuating the historical traditions of the national army regarding the titles of military units taking into consideration an exemplary performing the assigned tasks, high rates in combat training and on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. Hereinafter, the battalion should be named as follows: the 54th separate reconnaissance battalion named after Mykhailo Tysha of the Army of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Mykhailo Tysha is a Ukrainian military and state man, Colonel of Volyn (Zviahel) Cossack regiment. He distinguished himself by conducting successful raids into the enemy's rear during the national liberation struggle, headed by Bohdan Khmelnytskyi.
